Dr Beatriz García is director of Impacts 08 - European Capital of Culture Research Programme, an academic advisor to the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and has recently completed a major retrospective study on the long-term cultural legacy of Glasgow 1990.

Dr Garcia will be speaking about the cultural legacy that hosting major events has on cities. She will discuss the long-term impact that Liverpool, becoming European Capital of Culture in 2008, can have on the economic, physical and social regeneration of the city, and the need to frame such assessment within an understanding of impact in cultural and artistic terms specifically.
